The first time Joan saw anyone do two-step (at the Longbranch in Raleigh), she thought, “It’s just like ballroom dancing, but in blue jeans!” That suited her just fine, so she delved deeper and deeper into country/western dancing, rising to the professional level of line dance (Superstars division), the championship level of couples dancing (Division 1), and dancing with her students in their pro-am competitions.
Joan’s accomplishments include a world-championship in Showcase Line Dance and two world-championships with one of her students in Male Pro-am. She was also a certified judge for the UCWDC, judging regional and world competitions for several years. Joan hung up her country competition boots in 2004, but is spreading the joy of social dancing at her intermediate line dance class at Southern Star Ballroom Center in Raleigh.
Her new competition venue is the west coast swing circuit. She and her Strictly Swing partner are preparing for their next competition on Memorial Day -- Grand Nationals Dance Competition in Atlanta, Georgia.
Joan’s motto is "Dance ‘til you Drop", Learn now for a lifetime of fun.
